We get a ton of questions about used book donations, types of payments we accept, our buying policy, & more. Please take time to read through this page before coming!

Q: Do you accept returns? What is your return policy?

We accept in person returns within 3 days of purchase or with a gift receipt. We DO NOT accept returns without a receipt. Returns are eligible for STORE CREDIT ONLY, no exceptions. If you wish to return an item purchased online, you must e-mail us at tubbyandcoos@gmail.com to obtain a return authorization. Items must be unused, in excellent condition, and in original packaging. If you purchased a board game, the item must be in the original packaging and unopened for us to accept the return. All items purchased online must receive return authorization within 3 days of receipt of the item. Once we have received your return, we will e-mail you a store credit, minus all shipping charges. If you attempt to return a book that we deem looks used, we will not accept the return. Instead, you can exchange the book as a used book. See our Used Book Buying Policy page for more information on our acceptance of used books. The customer is responsible for all shipping charges on returns. 

The following items are not eligible for returns or exchanges: gift cards, sale items, perishable items, opened board games, and used books.

Q: Do you accept exchanges?

Yes, we will exchange items if they meet our return standards listed above. If you’re looking for a particular item to exchange for, please either call the store or e-mail us at tubbyandcoos@gmail.com to confirm the item you’re looking for is in stock and/or that we can order it. If you ordered the item online and it was shipped, you can exchange the item as long as it meets our return standards listed above. You will need to ship your item to us at 631 N. Carrollton Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119 before we can ship out the item for exchange. Items must be unused, in excellent condition, and in original packaging to be eligible for exchange. If you purchased a board game, the item must be in the original packaging and unopened for us to accept the exchange. The customer is responsible for all shipping charges on exchanges.

Q: Do you ship items?

Yes! We can ship to anywhere in the continental United States. Most in stock books ship within 1-2 days from our distributor, but some items may take longer to process if they are not coming directly from our distributors. We do not ship on weekends or holidays. If expedited shipping is required, please contact us at tubbyandcoos@gmail.com before placing your order. You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your order has shipped. You can place orders to be shipped here on our website or by calling the store at 504-598-5536. All orders being shipped must be pre-paid. Shipping costs vary based on the item being ordered.

Q: Do you accept used book donations?

Yes! We do not pay cash for used books, but you can receive store credit. The amount of credit is dependent upon the type of used book, the condition of the book, and the amount we believe we can resell the book for. We ONLY accept science fiction and fantasy used books. Q: What forms of payment do you accept? 

We accept the following forms of payment: cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, Barnes & Noble gift cards, Amazon gift cards, and Tubby & Coo’s gift cards. We will only accept checks in extreme situations, e.g. OMG I have NO other form of payment! Please have cash, a credit card, or a gift card on you. (And yes, we REALLY DO accept Barnes & Noble and Amazon gift cards!)

Q: Do you sell textbooks/nonfiction?

We do not. We are a niche genre fiction store that sells science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, mystery, children’s books, and board games. We can special order anything that does not fall into one of those categories, though!

Q: Have you read every book in the shop? 

Nope. Sure haven’t. Do you know how long that would take? We’re super good at making recommendations, though.
