Independent Bookstore Day 2016 Schedule

It’s time to celebrate your favorite local indies! 2016 Bookstore Day marks its second year of celebrating independent bookstores nationwide, with literary parties around the country. While IBD is being celebrated on April 30th in most locales, in New Orleans, it is being celebrated on May 7th so as not to conflict with Jazz Fest. Local book lovers should mark their calendars now for this special day of literary celebrations.

Tubby & Coo’s will offer exclusive day-of merchandise created especially for Independent Bookstore Day by major publishers and authors, including a Neil Gaiman coloring book, a Brandon Sanderson pocket guide to THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVES, and more! Since its inception in 2014, more than 120 authors have demonstrated their support for independent bookstores by donating work for Bookstore Day.

We’ll also be teaming up with the other local indies: Octavia Books, Maple Street Book Shops, & Garden District Book Shop for an epic scavenger hunt! Visit all four bookstores and be entered to win $100 in gift cards to all the stores!

Local authors read mean book reviews
This event was a huge hit last year, so we’re bringing it back! We’ll have local authors Farrah Rochon and Eva Vanrell to read their nastiest, most hilarious mean book reviews. Aloud. To all of you.

Workshop: The Road to Publishing with Alys Arden
Local author Alys Arden’s The Casquette Girls has sold more copies than any other book in the store. She has had an unconventional road to publishing, as she has published her book for free online, self published, and is now traditionally published. Come and hear about how she did it and how you can do it, too!

4:00 – 5:00 PM
Literary Costume Contest!
As always, we encourage costumes. Come on out dressed as your favorite literary character and join our costume contest to win some great prize packages!
