Tubby & Coo’s is Now Presenting Reading Between the Wines!

RBTW 2015

On November 5, 2013, owner of Tubby & Coo’s, Candice Huber, launched a reading series called Reading Between the Wines at Pearl Wine Co. in Mid-City as part of Fleur de Lit, Candice’s literary events website. For the first year, we were happy and proud to partner with Maple Street Book Shops for book selling at the events. Beginning with our first event on February 4, 2015, Tubby & Coo’s will be taking over as the book seller.

Reading Between the Wines is a laid back, salon-type environment where we drink wine, eat cheese, and talk to local authors about their books. The event takes place on the first Wednesday evening of every month at Pearl Wine Co. inside of the American Can Company from 7:00-8:00 PM. Pearl offers wines by the glass for $5, and we offer lively conversation with amazing authors and great reads.

Come and join us for our 2015 kick off event on Wednesday, Feb. 4!

Bill Loehfelm, author of the Maureen Coughlin crime fiction series, whose new book is Doing the Devil’s Work. Bill’s character, Maureen, is Sarah Connor meets Ellen Ripley as a New Orleans cop. The first book of the series, The Devil She Knows, is Maureen’s back story while she’s still a cocktail waitress in New York. The second book, The Devil in Her Way, is the first book with Maureen as a cop in New Orleans, and the new book, Doing the Devil’s Work, is the continuation of her story. The best part about this series? You don’t have to read it in order.

Morgan Molthrop, author of new book LOVE New Orleans. Morgan’s recent book, Andrew Jackson’s Playbook, shows how city leaders’ strategies after Hurricane Katrina paralleled Andrew Jackson’s battle strategies, and is a super interesting read. The new book is all about loving New Orleans. You know those LOVE signs put up all over the city by contextual artists Arthur Phoenix and John Hebert? Morgan explores those signs with essays and photos in LOVE New Orleans. Have you been looking for LOVE in all the wrong places? Well now, we’re putting LOVE right into your hands. If you LOVE NOLA, this is the perfect book for your collection.

Tom Cooper, author of the brand new novel The Marauders, out February 3. In The Marauders, Gus Lindquist is a pill-addicted, one-armed treasure hunter obsessed with finding the lost treasure of Jean Lafitte after the BP oil spill. In his quest, he meets a slate full of quirky characters, including small time criminal potheads prone to hysterical banter, a smooth talking oil company businessman, and some drug smuggling psychopath twins. As the story progresses, the characters are set on a collision course, and it soon becomes clear that not all will survive.

Dawn Chartier, author of new paranormal romance Bewitching the Enemy. In this book, a witch who doesn’t know she’s a witch accidentally sets off some spells, then gets involved with a super hot pediatrician who happens to be a warlock who’s supposed to kill her. Not intrigued yet? It all takes place here in NOLA, where of course we have magic and spells and witches and warlocks. A sexy, NOLA, fantasy? I’m in.

Erica Spindler, author of The First Wife, out February 10. The First Wife is the story of Bailey Browne, who has always dreamed of a knight in shining armor/mysterious stranger who would come and sweep her off her feet. One day, he appears, they fall in love, and they are married. Logan Abbott brings Bailey to his horse farm in Louisiana, and soon her dreams of a happily-ever-after begin to unravel. She discovers a tragic family history and whisperings about the disappearance of Logan’s first wife, True. When another woman disappears, all signs point to Logan.

Alys Arden, author of The Casquette Girls. After the storm of the century rips apart New Orleans, Adele Le Moyne and her father are among the first to return to the city. Events too unnatural – even for New Orleans – lead Adele to an attic that’s been sealed for 300 years, and the chaos she unleashes threatens not only her life, but everyone she knows. Caught suddenly in a hurricane of eighteenth century myths and monsters, Adele must quickly untangle a web of magic that links the climbing murder rate in New Orleans to her own ancestors. But who can you trust in a city where everyone has a secret and where keeping them can be a matter of life and death – unless, of course, you’re immortal.

Deborah Burst, author of Louisiana’s Sacred Places: Churches, Cemeteries and Voodoo and Hallowed Halls of Greater New OrleansLouisiana’s Sacred Places blurs the lines between the sacred and the profane. Explore Louisiana’s most solemn and revered locales, from New Orleans’ most telling portraits of eternal architecture to St. Roch Chapel’s chamber of miracles with relics of pain and suffering. Burst even brings readers inside Voodoo ceremonies with vivid photography and a detailed history on the religion with interviews from New Orleans’ own Voodoo priestess, Sallie Ann Glassman. Burst ends the book with some dark humor in how New Orleans celebrates its dead with jazz funerals and post-mortem parties fit for a king.
