As Latinx Heritage Month comes to a close, join us and Bookshop.org in supporting and reading stories by Latinx communities now and throughout the year.

In this event, moderated by Rudy Ruiz, Cecilia Aragon, Jennifer Givhan, Alex Temblador, and Sergio Troncoso will discuss their writing, how being Latinx in the U.S. has shaped their craft, and what they wish readers knew about their work.

RUDY RUIZ (MODERATOR) is the author of The Resurrection of Fulgencio Ramirez (starred review, Booklist), and Seven for the Revolution, winner of four International Latino Book Awards. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Harvard, where his studies included literature and creative writing.
CECILIA ARAGON is a Seattle author, pilot, and the first Latina full professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington. Her memoir, Flying Free: My Victory over Fear to Become the First Latina Pilot on the US Aerobatic Team, lifts readers into the skies on her epic journey from fearful, bullied child to champion pilot. Her major awards for research, and a stint at NASA designing software for Mars missions, led President Obama to call her “one of the top scientists and engineers in the country.”
JENNIFER GIVHAN is a Mexican-American writer and activist, is the author of the novels Jubilee and Trinity Sight, as well as four full-length poetry collections, most recently Rosa’s Einstein, and two chapbooks. She has received, among other honors, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, a PEN/Rosenthal Emerging Voices fellowship, and New Ohio Review’s Poetry Prize, chosen by Tyehimba Jess. Givhan holds a Master's degree in English from California State University Fullerton and an MFA from Warren Wilson College.
ALEX TEMBLADOR is the author of Secrets of the Casa Rosada, which has received multiple awards, including the NACCS Tejas Foco Young Adult Fiction Award and Kirkus Reviews’ Best of YA Books. Her second book, Half Outlaw, is forthcoming adult fiction. Alex lives and works in Dallas, Texas, as the organizer of the author series LitTalk, a public speaker, a freelance writer, and a creative writing instructor.
SERGIO TRONCOSO is author of A Peculiar Kind of Immigrant’s Son, winner of the Kay Cattarulla Award for Best Short Story and Best Short Story Collection from the International Latino Book Awards. Other books: From This Wicked Patch of Dust (Southwest Book Award; a Kirkus starred review and Best Book of 2012); Crossing Borders (Foreword Reviews' Bronze Award for Essays winner); The Nature of Truth; and The Last Tortilla and Other Stories. A Fulbright scholar, Troncoso has served as a judge for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and New Letters Prize for Essays. He is president of the Texas Institute of Letters.
