ABOUT UNIQUE EATS AND EATERIES OF NEW ORLEANS

Perhaps no other city in America bases its identity on its unique cuisine more fervently than New Orleans. And the stories behind the restaurants serving that iconic cuisine are as colorful as the myriad dishes they present. In Unique Eats and Eateries of New Orleans, take a culinary tour the city whose food has been heralded for almost three centuries. Bridging land and sea, New Orleans boasts a history that emphasizes food and drink combined with a laissez-faire attitude that allows everyone to give way to the pleasures of the table. Find out where you can dine at the oldest restaurant in America, the newest avant-garde restaurant experimenting with science, and places for a great drink supported by delicious nibbles. Cajun and Creole delicacies burst to life from the menus, with attention to the history of the ingredients and the rich cultures that brought them to New Orleans in the first place. Learn about the po’boy, the beignet, the king cake and the muffuletta—and some of the best places to sample them, along with other unique staples of the bayou palate. Local food writer Elizabeth M. Williams brings years of experience and a discerning appetite to this insider’s exploration of her hometown’s best offerings. From haute cuisine to comfort food, champagne to alligator, you’ll find a sweet and savory road map of New Orleans on every page.
