Tubby & Coo’s honors, respects, and welcomes all genders, sexual orientations, races, creeds, cultures, professions, and walks of life. We are a judgment, criticism, and violence-free zone. No matter who you are, no matter how you identify, you are safe with us.

This Safer Space Policy is intended to help Tubby & Coo’s be a supportive, non threatening environment for all who enter and/or participate in our events. We want our space to be welcoming and engaging, and we encourage everyone – customers, events presenters, volunteers, and employees – to be proactive in creating an atmosphere where the safety of others is validated. In this spirit, we are survivor centric and survivor oriented, and violence, abuse, sexual assault and discrimination will not be tolerated.

Everyone entering Tubby & Coo’s is asked to be aware of their language and behavior, and to think about whether it might be harmful to others. We define oppressive behavior as any conduct that demeans, marginalizes, rejects, threatens, or harms anyone on the basis of ability, age, cultural background, education, ethnicity, gender, immigration status, language, nationality, physical appearance, race, religion, self-expression, sexual orientation, species, status as a parent, or other such factors.

By entering Tubby & Coo’s and/or participating in our events and activities, you agree to abide by the following guidelines:

  • Respect peoples’ opinions, beliefs, experiences, and differing points of view.
  • Respect everyone’s identity and background, including pronouns and names. Do not assume anyone’s gender identity, sexual preference, survivor status, economic status, background, health, etc.
  • Respect everyone’s physical and emotional boundaries. Physical and/or verbal threats will not be tolerated at Tubby & Coo’s under any circumstances. Disruptive individuals may be asked to leave.
  • Be responsible for your own actions; be aware that your actions have an effect on others, despite what your intentions may be. Listen and change your behavior if someone tells you that you are making them uncomfortable.
  • Be aware of your prejudices and privileges and the space you take up.
  • Alcohol is permitted only during pre-approved special events, and we request that it be used with moderation at those times.
We have a zero tolerance policy toward harassment or behavior that endangers the store, staff, or customers, which includes, but is not limited to:
  • Intimidation or threats
  • Unwanted advances or attention
  • Stalking, following, or impeding the free movement of others
  • Unwanted photography or video recording (including any recordings or photography conducted without prior approval of Loyalty management)
  • Verbal threats
  • Inappropriate gestures or statements
  • Sustained disruption of speakers
  • Purposeful destruction of merchandise or signage
  • Misuse of the store space
  • Disrespectful comments that go beyond the boundaries of civil disagreement and civic discourse
  • Consistent or disruptive noise from personal devices
  • Abandonment or lack of supervision for children under the age of 12
  • Animals unsupervised or off leash

All folks who are official helpers at Tubby & Coo’s, including employees and volunteers, are empowered to enforce these rules and begin de-escalation procedures. If you cannot abide by the guidelines mentioned above, all helpers are empowered to ask you to leave the store and/or event space.

If you experience harassment, abuse, or sexual assault, or if a perpetrator of sexual violence is interfering with your participation or presence at an event or in our space, please approach any official Tubby & Coo’s helper whom you feel comfortable talking to in person, or feel free to e-mail the owner directly at owner@tubbyandcoos.com. We are all here to help with any conflicts arising from the violation of our policies.

We welcome the continuing discussion about and improvement of this policy.
